In addressing energy & food security improving maritime productivity is the main goal for Aceh and addressing energy & food security. On-site observations & intensive stakeholder engagement by the project partners shows that low productivity is largely due to low engagement with, and low aptitude for using appropriate, sustainable energy technology as locally driven business practices.

In line with the UK – Indonesia bilateral maritime focal programmes, this project contributes to the economic development &social welfare of communities in wider Indonesia by creating a step change towards appropriately designed & managed sustainable energy systems for maritime productivity. This action research moves through 4 linked stages; demonstrate integration of renewable energy systems; apply appropriate technology; embed training programme to meet community’s aspirations; and initiate business models that can create wider benefits.

The action research will lead to positive impacts on livelihood of low income people through applying Integrated Renewable Energy (IRE) systems to existing & aspirational economic sectors.

Stakeholder Focus Group Discussion (Marine & Fisheries, Energy & Mineral Resources, Universities & Polytechnics; Community Groups, NGOs and other third sectors)

The expected outputs include showcase of operational IRE sites, policy recommendations to relevant Ministries, and strategic briefs to Planning Agencies
