Friday Funding #4: Environment

Welcome to the 4th edition of Friday Funding. This week’s theme is Environment.

Call Title: Innovation Fund
Funder: ESRC Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP)
Funding Available: £50k     Deadline: 30th June 16
Summary: The aim of the fund is to stimulate the flow of innovative ideas on climate policy from both the practitioner and research communities. We are therefore seeking applications that outline innovative ideas that could help to advance climate policy. Ideas can relate to climate change mitigation or adaptation, to any stage of the policy process from inception to impact, to any level from the global to the local and to any setting in the UK or internationally, including business and the voluntary sector. The key requirement is that ideas – when developed – have the potential to make a real contribution to the advancement of climate policy.

Call Title: Directed Internships
Funder: NERC
Funding Available: 100% salary and associated costs        Deadline: 21 July 2016
Summary: NERC is inviting applications for Directed Internships. Directed Internships focus on a particular science area, policy requirement or business sector. Directed interns will work on a topic or with a business sector that the NERC community has identified as needing a dedicated person to accelerate the impact of NERC-funded science. Particular interest to RGU may be the DECC Unconventional Oil and Gas Internship.

Call Title: RCUK-DIPI-Ristekdikti-MoHE-DOST-TRF Research Partnerships Call
Funder: RCUK (with partner country funder)
Funding Available: £50-£100k     Deadline: 02 August 2016
Summary: The aim is to deliver research that will provide new insights and stimulate creative thinking to tackle real world problems and that will contribute to the economic development and welfare of Southeast Asia. The longer term objective is to establish sustainable collaborations between UK and Southeast Asian researchers that will increase the competitiveness of these researchers in gaining funds for excellent research in future funding calls, either under the Newton Fund or through other routes. There are several themes in this call, Energy – Food – Water – Environment Nexus, is of particular relevance to this theme. RGU academics may also have interest in the other themes of Creative Economy & Cultural Heritage, Mental Health, Capacity Building in Big Data and Technology Development through Astronomy.

Call Title: Institutional Links Grants Funder: Newton Fund/British Council
Funding Available: £50-£300k     Deadline: 27 June 16 (15 July for Mexico)
Summary: This programme is designed to establish links beyond the level of the individual researcher and innovation practitioner, opening up opportunities for more sustainable, solution-oriented collaborations between academic groups as well as with the private and third sector (e.g. SMEs, NGOs, technology transfer offices and other not-for-profit organisations).
